Dr. Gretchen Cole has always loved all types of animals and had a constant desire to learn about the world around her. As a child growing up near Kansas City, she loved caring for her family pets and watching the wildlife in her neighborhood. In high school, she brought home the science lab’s tarantula during breaks to keep it fed and cared for, much to the dismay of her family. In college she worked at the Kansas City Zoo as an education leader then went on to obtain her veterinary degree from Kansas State University. Following residency at the University of Wisconsin, she worked for Indianapolis Zoo and now the Oklahoma City Zoo where she cares for a diverse group of animals. She is board certified by the American College of Zoological Medicine as a specialist in zoological animals. She also has a special interest in disaster medicine and response planning and is a member of the US National Veterinary Response Team (NVRT). When not at work she enjoys traveling, wine, swimming, and working with a local Texas horned lizard tracking project.
